R is for Reading

Picture courtesy of Miss Morgan at Brilliant Beginnings Preschool. The best Preschool EVER.

Jake wants to learn to read so bad. He asks me all the time to teach him, but when I tell him we have to start with letters and sounds, he changes his mind. Every time I read him a book, he stops me and asks what each word says.

Every night when he tell him to go to bed, he says pleadingly, "But can I still read books?" Of course I say yes, because really, who could say no to that? And so he grabs a pile of books and hauls them into bed with him. Most kids sleep with stuffed animals, but Jake sleeps with books.
Dr. Seuss books went on sale the other day, and we loaded up. Jake's current favorites are Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and The Lorax. We have Cat in the Hat for our Tag reader, and I think Jake has worn out the pages pressing the Tag pen on the words so many times.

It's great. I love my little family of readers. My mom asked me if I wanted some kid books she was getting rid of the other day. I said yes (of course) and she said, "If there are any you don't want, just throw them out." My response? "Mom, we don't get rid of books in this house." And we don't. One day, they're going to take over, and I will gladly let them.
